All workshops listed here are appropriate for parents, educators, social workers, health professionals, and any individual interested in enhancing communications and improving relationships with others. They meet the requirements for many continuing education credits for professional organizations.
One Day (7.5 hour) workshops are available at the Insight Centre or in your community. Cost: $110.00 per person (group rates are available for 10 or more participants). 1. Personal Growth, Personal Change
Many people get stuck in unhealthy patterns of thinking feeling and behavior that have outcomes that are painful. A common question people ask themselves is “how do I keep ending up in situations like this” or “why does this keep happening to me”. People experience repetitious situations at work at home or in relationships and don’t understand why.
A personal growth personal change workshop will help you to understand you as a person both inside and outside. It will help you understand how you have become the person you are today. It will also help you understand why you end up in the situations that you do
2. Improving Communication Between Couples
The most significant cause of marriage break up is poor communication between the two people. Our interactions with one another are strongly influenced by who we are and where we came from. Two people begin a marriage each with his or her own history and baggage. Very often conflict occurs when the two person’s sets of baggage collide with one another. If we can understand each other’s history and how we came to be who we are today we can adjust our communication patterns in order to have peace in our relationship. We can also begin to experience authentic intimacy with one another.
The theories of Transactional analysis help to understand who we are and where we came from, it helps understand our partner also. The language of TA is simple and clear and accessible to all people. Our belief in TA is that if it can’t be said in eight year old language it isn’t worth saying.
The concepts covered in both workshops are:
Ego states
The theory of personality as a structure and how we use this structure in relationships with other people.
Transactions
The theory of communication. By using simple diagrams we can map the pattern of a person’s communication with others from the most ordinary to the most intimate. The nature and quality of a person’s Transactions (communication) will determine whether he/she gets what they want out of life or not.
Time structuring
The manner in which we structure time in our everyday lives will reveal clues to beliefs we have about ourselves either negative or positive, that we developed in childhood and continue to believe today.
Psychological Games
Interactions with others that have both a social level and a psychological level to them. Psychological games are the reason that communications with others either break down or are ineffective.
Life Script
The story we wrote (psychologically) for ourselves in childhood. It contains both positive and negative decisions we made about ourselves, our value and worth, our place in the world, and how we believe others see us. It is based on our perceptions of our childhood experiences
3. TA 101: An Introduction to Transactional Analysis
NEXT Course - August 2010
This 12-hour course is an introduction to the theory and practice of Transactional Analysis. Content focuses on practical tools and solid theory related to personality and communication. It explores such concepts as:
- Ego states (parent, adult, and child)
- Transactions (communication exchanges between people)
Certified TA practitioners provide instruction through a combination of classroom lecture, participation exercises, and group discussion.

4. TA Training
The Insight Counselling Centre provides advanced training courses for those who wish to study TA in greater depth. A Certified Transactional Analyst designation requires advanced theory training and hands-on therapy experience with supervision. The final step is an international certification exam through the International TA Association.
